Bird Collision Risk Management at Wind Power Plants

news 1 min read

Wind power plants (WPPs) play a critical role in carbon-neutral energy generation, while the ecological interaction with bird populations has become a subject of intensive research in recent years. BMMS (Bird Monitoring and Mitigation System) radar solutions monitor bird movements within a 5 km radius, perform species-specific risk assessments, and automatically brake turbines when necessary.

TLY Enerji reduced the false-positive rate to 30% through a radar and thermal camera hybrid installation in pilot projects carried out with local operators. This approach protects biodiversity while preventing unnecessary turbine shutdowns.

BMMS infrastructure is increasingly becoming a mandatory requirement in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes, and early integration significantly reduces costs for operators.
